The eccles Crown theatre a listed grade II building, whichwas originally Opened in 1899 as the Lyceum in Eccles. This iconic Theatre was designed as a home for Shakespearean performances, But with the advent of music hall it very quickly became home to a variety of shows changing ownership and names in 1907 when it became the Crown Theatre. Its ownership was later signed over and the building was turned into a cinema in 1932, It was then turned into a Bingo hall and closed in 1963 The stage house was then demolished leaving only the auditorium and front of house areas intact. It was said that the interior had fallen into great disrepair by the late 1980's. In June 2013 a fire started by arsonists destroyed what remained of the roof and caused severe damaged, The building had been boarded up however people still managed to find ways of gaining entry, The local council managed to get the back section bricked up making it harder for anyone else to gain easy access to the ruined building. In 2017 we personally found out that mother nature is taking over the building incredibly fast, the structure inside looks like its close to fully collapsing, 3 floors are still accessible via the main stairway however not a single area is safe and stable, Residents say they can see the front of the building moving in the wind. It has also been said police have had to attend the site more than once after locals filmed children as young as 13 climbing to the roof of the building and throwing debris onto the busy road below. A campaign has been setup called "Save the Eccles Crown Theatre" run by a group of local campaigners who want to save the building, so far no luck has come of the campaigns as planning permission has recently been put forward for the theatres complete demolition. Planning permission for the back end of the building was given in 2005 and again in 2008 to build flats on the site, however nothing has come of it yet.
